Our Company
Support built around the person, not the programme
Cempaka began in Melaka with a single purpose: to give working families a dependable, thoughtful presence for the older relatives they love.
Back to HomeHow Cempaka came to be
Cempaka grew out of a straightforward observation: families in Melaka who work full days often have no quiet, affordable option for keeping an older relative company at home. The founding team — people with their own experiences of managing family and work at the same time — wanted to fill that gap with something honest and unhurried.
We chose the name Cempaka because the flower is familiar across Malaysian households — fragrant, unassuming, and associated with comfort rather than ceremony. It felt right for what we do.
We started small, working with a handful of families in Jalan Mahkota and nearby streets. Over time, word spread — mostly through families recommending us to siblings, colleagues, and neighbours facing the same daily balancing act. That organic growth has shaped how we still operate today: carefully, one family at a time.
Today, Cempaka arranges three distinct support programmes — daytime companionship, errand and appointment coordination, and technology connection help — each designed around the rhythms of ordinary home life rather than institutional schedules.
Our Direction
To make it straightforward for any family in Melaka to arrange steady, respectful support for an older relative at home — without paperwork, without pressure, and without the impersonal feel of institutional care.
Our Values
- Patience — every older relative moves at their own pace, and so do we
- Clarity — families always know what has been arranged and what happened
- Discretion — personal details stay within the household
- Consistency — the same companion where possible, the same tone always
Rooted in Melaka
All of our work is based in Melaka. We know the local neighbourhoods, markets, and community facilities — practical knowledge that matters when coordinating outings or running errands efficiently.
The People Behind Cempaka
A small team with a clear sense of what matters — and plenty of practical experience with everyday family life in Malaysia.
Norizan Razak
Founder & Lead Coordinator
Norizan spent over a decade coordinating community welfare programmes in Melaka before founding Cempaka. She oversees companion matching and keeps family communication running smoothly.
Hasnul Taha
Companion & Errand Specialist
Hasnul grew up in a large multi-generational household and brings a natural ease with older adults. He leads the Errand & Appointment Logistics programme across central Melaka.
Siti Tarmizi
Technology Connection Facilitator
Siti has a background in adult education and a talent for explaining technology in plain, patient language. She guides older relatives through video calls and messaging at their own pace.
How We Keep Standards Consistent
Every programme runs to the same internal standards — regardless of which companion is present or what day of the week it is.
Companion Onboarding
Every companion completes a structured introduction that covers communication with older adults, household routines, and family reporting before joining any programme.
Activity Records
A brief record is kept of each session — activities covered, any observations noted, and how the day went. Families can request a copy at any time.
Information Handling
Details about your relative are shared only with the assigned companion and the family's designated contact. Nothing is passed to outside parties. See our Privacy Policy for the full picture.
Regular Check-Ins
We hold a brief check-in with the family after the first two weeks of any new programme — and at any point if something needs adjusting.
Schedule Reliability
If a companion is unavailable for a scheduled session, families are notified promptly and an alternative is arranged where possible — no silent gaps.
Open Feedback Channel
Families can reach Norizan directly at any point — by phone or message — to raise a concern, share feedback, or simply ask a question.
Home support for older relatives in Melaka
Many families in Melaka face a version of the same situation: an older parent or grandparent at home, a working day that starts early and ends late, and the constant low-level worry about whether everything is all right at the house. Cempaka was built specifically for that situation.
Our daytime companionship programme gives older relatives warm, structured company on weekdays — conversation, shared light activities, and the comfortable presence of someone familiar. End-of-day notes keep the family informed without any chasing.
The errand and appointment coordination programme handles the practical side: grocery runs, parcel collection, and transport for outings or scheduled visits. Everything is arranged through a shared calendar, with a confirmation sent after each errand so families always know what was done.
Technology connection help addresses a smaller but often important need — setting up video calls, messaging apps, and photo sharing so older relatives can stay in regular contact with family members who live elsewhere in Malaysia or abroad. Sessions are patient, unhurried, and come with a large-print guide to refer back to.
All three programmes are based in Melaka. We work within the city and surrounding neighbourhoods, which means our companions know the local streets, the wet market timings, the community centres, and the practical details that make coordination easier. Families who have used Cempaka consistently mention the relief of knowing their relative has someone familiar nearby — not a service, but a steady presence.
Curious whether Cempaka is a good fit?
We are happy to talk through any of the programmes in plain terms, at whatever pace suits you. No commitment needed to start a conversation.
